Welcome to the
Stratford Band!

WELCOME to one of the most exciting experiences in which you can be a part – THE BAND!  Now, more than ever, we have information to justify why we do this demanding, yet rewarding activity. Researchers have concluded that the study of music helps with spatial reasoning, test taking, and overall quality of life!  Factor in social skills, emotional development, leadership training, group interaction, aesthetic perception, music making, and the discipline of being in a band program and I don’t know why anyone would not want to be involved in a band program like the one here at Stratford High School!  The ultimate goal is a lifelong understanding and appreciation for quality music and music making!

The Stratford Band Program serves approximately 180 students and consists of the Marching Knights, Colorguard,  Large Jazz Band, Festival Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, the Stratford Concert Band, the nationally recognized Stratford Wind Orchestra, Flute Choir, Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Choir, Brass Quintet, Trumpet Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. All ensembles are consistent recipients of Superior ratings at SCBDA events as well as earning the Outstanding Performance Award. The Stratford Wind Orchestra performed at the 2020 Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, IN. In 2023, the SWO performed in Washington, D.C. at the National Concert Band President’s Cup. In March of 2023, the Stratford Trumpet Ensemble was a National Semi-Finalist in the National Trumpet Competition held in Boulder, Colorado. The Stratford Band Program is supported by Westview Middle School, College Park Middle School, Sangaree Middle School, and Marrington Middle School for the Arts.
